Living Your Dream Can Be As Simple as a Signature
“I just don’t know what to do with my career.”
Wallace is a singer/songwriter and had not performed in 4 years and had stopped even listening to music. He was also a massage therapist but developed carpel tunnel syndrome and went into real estate thinking it would stabilize his income. When I met him socially with my wife for dinner, he looked very depressed, in fact he had been for many months.
He is a loving gentle man and the energy in his office, the aggression, the fear and competitiveness was toxic for him. He felt trapped and hopeless and he was not even making much money because he was not aggressive or competitive though he certainly was afraid.
We did some visioning work talking about what his ideal life would look like. He had a hard time seeing it but he wanted to enjoy music again and go back to massage. He had learned a new technique that was easier on his hands but he was afraid to leave real estate.
According to Robert Cialdini, author of The Power of Persuasion, by putting your commitments onto paper and signing your name on it, the chance of fulfilling the commitment increases 37%. I had Wallace write out on paper a commit to listen to music every day for a month then sign it. The three of us there at the time witnessed it and prayed for William. That was it.
Only a few months later Wallace had quit real estate and was back in his old job in a prestigious hotel doing massage full time making a lucrative salary and using the new technique which caused him no pain and his clients seemed to prefer. Not only that, he performed live before an audience, to rave reviews!

When Stephane called me she was deeply depressed and later in our talk confessed to calling a few suicide hotlines recently. I first did a Usability Assessment to help ArcheDream see that they were focused on the performance and not the user’s experience and that the web site has many serious usability issues. Their mission, what they did and who they served where not easily found on their web site. The site though beautiful and exciting, created a sense of chaos and did not answer the most basic questions visitors ask. In addition, there were some technical problems.
They needed to go deeper and put themselves not just in the audience, but in the mind of potential donors to create a more user-centered web site.
Working with the organization’s fund-raising consultant, the board of directors and volunteers, we conducted a visioning session to explore what the organizations mission was, what people’s emotional motivation would be in working with them and then created a benefit-driven mission statement to guide their marketing.
Once the mission was clear, the site fell into place.

Linda had a previous career in advertising and did not want a Web site that felt in any way commercial. Through the process of Co-Creative Design we used a methodology that really fit her needs. We created “personas” which are imaginary users and then developed “scenarios” or typical online experiences for meditating on their needs, motivations and questions. Since Linda is a psychic who uses spirit guides, we really used these personas as “guides” to design the site for her. All she had to do was write down what they said.
